Who made the music, who made the game, and what is simulated.

Who made what, and who owns what.

Music

Every song in Album Draft belongs to the people who made it. The artists, writers, producers, labels and publishers hold those rights. This game claims none of them and hosts no audio.

Music previews courtesy of Apple. Thirty-second previews and song metadata are supplied by the iTunes Search API and streamed by Apple. Apple Music links point at the UK store.

Full tracks are linked out to Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music, which are licensed to play them. Album artwork is deliberately not used anywhere in the game.

The track list

675 tracks by 465 artists across 18 genres, from 1961 to 2024. The selection and the "power" rating attached to each song are editorial judgement, made by one person, and are certainly wrong somewhere. Corrections are welcome and get acted on: contact.

Chart positions

Simulated. The number the game gives you is a model output, not chart history. It is built from the power rating, how cohesive your album is, how many decades it spans, whether you filled the five slot roles, and a deliberate amount of luck so that no two albums score identically. See Terms.

How it is built

Thanks

To everyone who played an early version and said what was wrong with it. Particularly the person who noticed that some rounds only offered two songs instead of three, which turned out to be true a quarter of the time and led to the library nearly doubling.
